Immigration Requirements for working in the UK
| Testimonials from our clients ▼ |
During the stressed period of my divorce, Jeremy Sogno was always available to advise on any queries. As well as receiving an excellent service, in my opinion the costs involved were very reasonable taking into consideration Mr. Sogno’s time at our meetings in the office, telephone & court attendance. In spite of the recession it is still possible to come to the UK and work legally. The introduction of the five Tier Points Based System created four categories under which an application to work in the UK can be made. Those in force at the present time are Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 5.
Tier 1
Tier 1 provides for highly skilled migrants, entrepreneurs and investors to come to the UK to work or set up or take over a business or invest. It also allows graduates from UK universities to stay and work. You do not need to have a specific job offer and you can seek employment anywhere in the UK. A sponsor is not needed for an application in this category.
Tier 2
Tier 2 allows employers in the United Kingdom to recruit skilled employees from abroad where no British or European Economic Area (EEA) national can fill the vacancy. It also allows intra company transfers of employees in multinational firms. Under this category, sportspersons who are internationally established and Ministers of religion can come to the UK and work. You must have a job offer and the employer or sponsor has to satisfy certain requirements in relation to the job offered. A sponsor is required for all applications under Tier 2.
Tier 5
Tier 5 comprises the Youth Mobility and Temporary Workers group. Nationals of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Monaco and British nationals who are not British citizens aged between 18 and 31 can come to the UK for up to two years and work under the Youth Mobility Scheme. Temporary workers include sportspersons, entertainers or creative artists, religious workers and charity workers who are allowed to work temporarily in the UK having met specific requirements.
If you want to work in the UK, we will advise you of the most suitable category for you and take you through the application process involved, including how long you can stay and how to evidence that you meet the necessary requirements for that category.
It is essential that you seek our advice before making the application. It is less costly but more importantly, we prevent you ending up in a situation where after your arrival in the UK your visa is revoked or you are not allowed to enter.
